COME ON FANS MARIAH IS BACK

After Seven years , Mariah Carey is back with another road-trip flick. But her new movie, "Tennessee," has little in common with 2001's "Glitter."Premiering at New York's Tribeca Film Festival last Saturday, it follows two brothers seeking their estranged father. On their travels, they meet Krystal, a waitress played by Carey.
"Mariah said, 'This is going to be refreshing for me; this is actually something that I want,' even knowing that it was a gritty, hard shoot," director Aaron Woodley told Reuters in an interview. "Some people even told me that they forgot it was Mariah Carey when they were watching the film."In 2001, Carey released the semi-autobiographical film "Glitter," which was a commercial and critical flop. She also appeared on MTV's Total Request Live, nearly disrobing in front of a baffled Carson Daly, amid rumors of a nervous breakdown. Carey, 38, has spent the years since atoning.
"The whole 'Glitter' experience was very, very hard to go through, but I learned a lot from it," she said in a statement. In 2005, the Long Island, New York native made a big comeback with her multiplatinum album "The Emancipation of Mimi" and won rave reviews for her performance in "WiseGirls," a comedy-drama that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
"She's not a diva and she came to work -- and work hard she did," said "Tennessee" producer Lee Daniels, who acknowledged: "People do feel negatively about her as an actor."

But that didn't stop him from offering her the lead female role. Daniels, producer of the Oscar-winning film "Monster's Ball," said he saw Carey in "WiseGirls" and decided "it was clear that she's a very talented actress."

Carey's new album, "E=MC2," shot to No. 1 on the U.S. pop chart, debuting with 463,000 sales in the week ended April 20, according to Nielsen SoundScan data. That was the best debut sales week of her career and the strongest of any artist this year. Figures for the week ended April 27 are out on Wednesday.Carey's latest single, "Touch My Body," is her 18th U.S. No. 1 -- taking her past Elvis Presley -- and just behind the Beatles, who managed 20 No. 1 songs.

Barack Obama's young daughters are "not impressed" that their father is the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination."When I call them and they say, 'Daddy, what did you do today?' I said, 'Well, I spoke to 35,000 people.' It's like 'Boring.' It's not interesting," Obama told Rachael Ray in an interview broadcast Tuesday on her daytime talk show.
Obama and his wife, Michelle, spoke to the celebrity chef about trying to make time for family and each other during a protracted race for his party's nomination. They have two daughters, Malia, 9, and Sasha, 6.

"It's thrilling except I'm not seeing my wife and kids enough," Obama said.

The Obamas try to see each other once a week, Michelle Obama said. She said if her husband is home for a block of time, they will have a family night, game night and a date night together. Recently, the couple ate at one of their favorite restaurants.

"It's like dinner or a movie because I can't stay awake," she said.

Michelle Obama said it makes her laugh to see her husband's face on campaign memorabilia.

"It's sort of like, 'Look. It's Dad,'" she said. "Is that Dad on a shirt? Is that Dad on a stick? It's just Barack. What's he doing on a shirt?"

PHILIPPINES BANNED KIDNEY TRADE TO FOREIGNERS

Foreigners will be permanently banned from receiving kidneys for transplant in the Philippines to prevent the country from becoming a major Asian center in an already thriving black-market trade, health officials announced on Tuesday.Extensive kidney trading involving impoverished Filipinos and prisoners, who sell their organs for paltry sums to syndicates catering mostly to foreign clients has been reported by the local media in recent years.A temporary ban was recently imposed on kidney transplants involving foreigners.
''Today, the Philippine government asserts its mandate to protect the poorest and most vulnerable sectors of our society,'' Health Secretary Francisco Duque said in announcing the ban.China and Pakistan, among the world's biggest sources of kidneys, have taken steps to outlaw the sale of human organs, and desperate foreigners may be prompted to increasingly turn to the Philippines, he said.
''The sale of one's body parts is condemnable and ethically improper. We have to stop it,'' he said. The sale of organs is illegal in the Philippines. The ban intended to protect poor Filipinos from exploitation will prohibit foreigners from getting donated kidneys unless they can prove a donor is related to them by blood, Duque said.
He said the ban was endorsed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and will take effect in about three weeks. Kidney donations among Filipinos will continue but will be strictly monitored by a new regulatory body, he said.Social Welfare Secretary Esperanza Cabral said at least 500 kidney transplants involving foreign patients were conducted last year in the Philippines. The kidney trade, often in the guise of donations, has long thrived in the country in secrecy, fostered by syndicates that lure the poor to sell their kidneys to foreigners, mostly from Japan, Europe and the Middle East, officials say.
Two weeks ago, police raided a house near Manila and rescued seven men who were lured by a gang that promised them jobs but later forced them to agree to become kidney donors. The gang was still searching for foreign clients when the seven were freed. Two other men in the house had already lost their kidneys, police Superintendent Antonio Yarra said.
Local TV networks have shown footage of Manila slums where virtually all men bore surgery scars after selling their kidneys for about 200,000 pesos (US$4,760; euro3,000) each.Cabral has said a permanent ban on kidney transplants for foreigners can help authorities more easily eradicate the thriving black market. Many Philippine donors have developed ailments such as urinary tract infections and high blood pressure linked to the transplants because of a lack of post-operation care, Cabral said.

MEL GIBSON TO STAR IN FIRST MOVIE SINCE 2002

Mel Gibson, who has kept a low profile since his drunken anti-Semitic outburst in July 2006, is set to headline his first feature film since 2002, Daily Variety reported on Tuesday. The 52-year-old Hollywood actor has committed to play a police investigator in "Edge of Darkness," a thriller based on a 1985 BBC miniseries, the trade publication said. Gibson's last feature starring roles were in the 2002 pair "Signs" and "We Were Soldiers." He went on to direct 2004's "The Passion of the Christ" and 2006's "Apocalypto." The latter film came out shortly after Gibson was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving near his Malibu home. During the incident, he yelled to officers that Jews were "responsible for all the wars in the world." He apologized profusely soon after, met with Jewish leaders, and underwent treatment for alcoholism. He is also serving a three-year probation term.

Gibson will find himself on the other side of the law in "Edge of Darkness," playing a straitlaced cop who uncovers systemic corruption while investigating the death of his activist daughter, Daily Variety said.It added that Gibson had long been a fan of the miniseries, and was receptive when producer Graham King and director Martin Campbell approached him several months ago. Shooting on the independently financed project begins in Boston in August. The Boston setting proved a gold mine for King and "Edge" screenwriter William Monahan, who won Oscars for their work on the Martin Scorsese crime drama "The Departed." For his part, Campbell most recently revived the James Bond franchise with "Casino Royale."

TIBET UNREST: CHINA SENTENCES 30 PEOPLE

A Chinese court on Tuesday sentenced 30 people, including six monks, to jail terms ranging from three years to life in prison for their alleged roles in deadly riots in the Tibetan capital last month, state media reported. The Intermediate People's Court of Lhasa announced the sentences at an open session, state media reported. The trial was the first since the mid-March riots.
Three men received life sentences, including a Buddhist monk identified as Basang, official Xinhua News Agency said. Basang led 10 people, including five other monks, to destroy local government offices, burn down shops and attack policemen, Xinhua said.Of the five other monks, two were sentenced to 20 years and three to 15 years in jail.

''I believe competent authorities ... will handle them according to the law in a fair and just way,'' Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said when asked about the trial. The massive anti-government protests that turned violent in Lhasa on March 14 were the largest challenge to Chinese rule in the Himalayan region in nearly two decades.China has said 22 people died in the riots while Tibet's government-in-exile announced Tuesday that it believes at least 203 Tibetans were killed in the ensuing crackdown.

The estimate was compiled from a combination of the government's own sources, Tibetan exile groups and official Chinese media. It was impossible to independently verify the information. Access to Tibet and surrounding provinces where protests broke out have been closed to foreigners since the unrest.Xinhua said the Lhasa violence left seven schools, five hospitals and 120 homes torched and more than 900 shops looted; the total damage was more than $35 million.

China's response to the riots has drawn attention to the government's human rights record and other policies, as the communist country prepares to host the Olympic Games in August.Rights groups and pro-Tibetan supporters have protested against the Olympic torch relay at several stops around the world, causing massive disruptions in some cities.

After weeks of international pressure by the US and the European Union, China announced last week it would be willing to begin talks with representatives to the Dalai Lama, the exiled spiritual leader of Tibet whom Beijing has blamed for fomenting the unrest. No specifics were given on when or where a possible meeting would occur.

On Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry's Jiang said that ''specifics of the contact and consultation have still yet to be further discussed.''The sentences came a day after Tibetan authorities announced the reopening of the Sera Monastery, which was closed after last month's riots, Xinhua reported.

ATTENTION MOMS - 'EAT CHOCOLATE ,PROTECT YOUR BABY'

Good news for to-be-moms! Eating chocolate can protect your unborn baby, for a study has found that it helps prevent pregnancy-induced hypertension known as pre-eclampsia. A team of researchers at Yale University has found that pregnant women who eat chocolate at least five times a week are 40 per cent less likely to develop pre-eclampsia than those who consume it less than once a week. Pre-eclampsia leads to blood vessels in the placenta failing to develop. This can drive up a woman's blood pressure and reduce the transfer of oxygen and nutrients to the foetus.
As a result, babies are often born prematurely and many die. According to them, the chemical theobromine - which occurs naturally in chocolate, particularly in dark varieties - could be responsible for the protection, British newspaper the Daily Mail reported on Tuesday.

In their study, the researchers looked at 2,291 pregnant women and tested the levels of theobromine in their infants' umbilical-cord blood. The study found that those women who consumed the most chocolate and those whose babies had the highest concentration of theobromine, were the less likely to develop pre-eclampsia than who did not have chocolate. However, lead researcher Dr Elizabeth W Triche said, ''Because of the importance of pre-eclampsia as a major complication of pregnancy, a detailed assessment of chocolate consumption is warranted.''

CBS TO BRITNEY SPEARS: BABY ... ONE MORE TIME

For anyone wondering whether pop singer Britney Spears might soon return to prime-time television, the answer on Monday from CBS could be summed up in four words: "Baby ... One More Time."Weeks after she drew glowing reviews and strong ratings as a guest star on the CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother," Spears will return to the show on May 12 to reprise her role as a sassy office assistant named Abby.
A network spokeswoman said the episode would be shot sometime this week in Los Angeles. In her March 24 debut on the series, Spears' character fell for the show's leading man, Ted, played by Josh Radnor, only to end up angry at Ted when he started dating her boss.In her return appearance, Abby tries to get even with Ted by pairing up with his estranged pal, Barney (former "Doogie Howser, M.D." star Neil Patrick Harris), who "pops a surprising question to Abby," according to a CBS synopsis of the plot.
Spears' first appearance on the show last month drew 10.6 million viewers, up sharply from the show's season-to-date average audience of 8.1 million. The mostly positive reviews also gave the performer a rare burst of upbeat headlines amid a torrent of highly publicized personal problems in recent years.Spears, 26, rose to fame as a teen star with a series of chart-topping singles, starting with "Baby ... One More Time." By 2002, she was named the world's top celebrity by Forbes magazine after earning $39.2 million in a single year. But her fortunes turned following the breakup of her marriage to Kevin Federline in late 2006. She passed in and out of rehab, lost custody of her two young sons and was hospitalized twice for psychiatric evaluation.
In recent months, however, Spears' life seemed to be back on the upswing under the guardianship of her father and a reconciliation with longtime manager Larry Rudolph. Her appearance last month on "How I Met Your Mother" sparked speculation that Spears might branch out further into acting, following a successful guest turn in March 2006 on the NBC comedy "Will & Grace."

FIGHT WITH THE HEAT BY HAVING TOMATO

Hi Friends, you all know about the tomato that we are using in our food in day-today life.Tomato stands as a best ever juicy fruit to protect you from the sun's killer radiation.
The researchers from the Newcastle University and the Manchester university has revealed that eating five tomatoes everyday could help protect against sunburn and premature ageing. From the research, ultraviolet rays lead to excess production of harmful molecules called ''reactive oxygen species'' which can damage skin structures and tomatoes contain an antioxidant called lycopene, which neutralises them. But you are not supposed to eat tomatoes regularly,if you are eating the tomato indirectly by means of Pizza, spaghetti, etc.Eating tomatoes is going to have this benefit in the sun, but it is still important to use conventional methods of protecting yourself against the sun such as sunscreens, shade and clothing.
while analysing the skin of 20 peoples, the researchers gave half of the people 5 tablespoons(55g) standard tomato paste which is equivalent to 5 cooked tomatoes with 10g of Olive oil.The other half of the peoples were given only the olive oil.
The experiment went for 12 weeks and then the peoples were exposed to the sunlight at the beginning and at the end of the research. In the result of those 20 peoples they found that,
those who had eaten the paste had 33 per cent more protection against sunburn. Also the analysis of skins of both the group peoples showed that the tomatoes had boosted the skin's procollagen levels, a molecule that gives skin its structure. Losing procollagen leads to the skin ageing and losing its elasticity.
The increased levels of lycopene reduced damage to mitochondrial DNA in the skin, which is also linked to ageing skin, found the researchers, who now hope to carry out further studies to establish whether tomatoes prevent skin cancer. So as far as concerned using of Tomato in our daily life gives us more benefit . Use tomato and live a happy life.............

US, EU CAUSED EXPLOSIVE FOOD PRICES:

The United States and the European Union have been setting a bad path by encouraging the use of food crops for the production of Bio-Fuels . This will surely lead to the abnormal change in the price of the food products in the world. This paved the way of "explosive rise" in the price of food products. In 2007, US used one third of its corn production for the production of Bio-Fuels and European Union is planning to have 10 percent of its need to supply the fuel.so as we concern both the Bosses of the world have to reduce those policy of using the food to produce fuel so that reducing the food prices.
